Better Connectivity Starts with the Train Window: Meet Us at InnoTrans 2026

Mobile connectivity has become an important part of the passenger experience. Whether working, making a call or streaming content, passengers increasingly expect to stay connected throughout their journey. Yet modern train windows can make this difficult: the metallic coatings used to improve thermal performance can also significantly reduce the penetration of 4G and 5G signals into the train.

At InnoTrans 2026, Pulsaart by AGC will present WAVETHRU™ Retrofit, a solution developed to improve mobile signal penetration through existing coated train windows. Using a precise laser treatment, WAVETHRU™ creates a signal-transparent pattern in the coating while preserving the glazing’s thermal insulation properties. The treatment is passive, requires no additional energy and is nearly invisible to passengers.

WAVETHRU™ Retrofit can be applied to both flat and curved glazing already installed on the train. This means there is no need to replace or remove the windows. The work can be carried out directly at the customer’s site and organised around the operator’s schedule, making it possible to improve signal penetration while keeping changes to the existing train infrastructure to a minimum.

Alongside WAVETHRU™ Retrofit, visitors will also be able to discover AGC’s Transparent 5G Glass Antenna. Integrated into the train glazing, the antenna is designed to receive 5G signals from outside the train and transfer them to the onboard connectivity system. By using the window itself as the antenna location, the solution offers an alternative to conventional external antennas while maintaining the appearance of the train.

The two technologies address train connectivity from different angles. WAVETHRU™ Retrofit helps signals from outside penetrate coated glazing more effectively, while the Transparent 5G Glass Antenna provides an integrated way to receive those signals for the onboard network. Together, they demonstrate how the train window can become part of the connectivity solution rather than an obstacle to it.

Interested in improving connectivity for your passengers? Meet the Pulsaart by AGC team at InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin, 22–25 September, Hall 1.1, Booth 660, as part of the AGC Glass Europe booth. Come and talk to us about WAVETHRU™ Retrofit, AGC Transparent 5G Glass Antenna and how glazing can contribute to better connectivity on board.
