Pulsaart by AGC is proud to partner with Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn (NEB) to enhance mobile connectivity on regional trains through the use of its WAVETHRU™ Retrofit solution.

NEB, a regional railway operator serving the Berlin-Brandenburg area, is committed to improving the passenger experience by investing in smart, forward-looking technologies. As part of this effort, Pulsaart’s WAVETHRU™ Retrofit is being applied to the windows of NEB’s PESA Link trains at the operator’s Basdorf depot, just north of Berlin.

Many modern trains use thermal insulation coatings on windows, which unintentionally block mobile signals and lead to poor reception inside the carriage. WAVETHRU™ Retrofit solves this issue with a precise, non-intrusive laser treatment that improves signal penetration through the glass while maintaining both energy efficiency and transparency.

The work is carried out directly on-site, using the windows already installed in the trains. No removal, replacement, or new glass production is needed, which avoids unnecessary material use and prevents the emissions typically associated with manufacturing, transport, and installation. By upgrading what’s already in place, WAVETHRU™ Retrofit significantly reduces environmental impact and supports a circular approach to rail fleet maintenance.

Unlike other solutions, it also requires no powered devices such as repeaters or boosters. As a passive technology, WAVETHRU™ Retrofit improves connectivity without increasing energy demand. The result is a simple, sustainable, and cost-efficient way to bring reliable mobile signal to passengers without disruption.

This collaboration reinforces Pulsaart’s role in delivering connected rail solutions across Europe and reflects the growing demand for reliable mobile connectivity in public transport. It also highlights a broader shift toward smarter and more passenger-focused mobility, where digital access is becoming an essential part of every journey.

Pulsaart by AGC remains committed to shaping the future of train window technology by combining advanced glass engineering with connectivity innovation. We continue to support rail operators as they adapt to the needs of today’s digitally connected travelers.
